A Philosophy to Feel

Hemanaire is a way of experiencing wine. Wine is a way of experiencing Hemanaire.

In the Slow Living Valley, every bottle is born from the relationship between the land and the people who live it. Our choices in the vineyard and the cellar follow an ethical path before a productive one, allowing each harvest to authentically express the character of its terroir and vintage.

This is why our wines are not defined solely by grape varieties, techniques or ageing. They are told through the sensations they leave behind. They are chosen not only for what they are, but for the way they accompany those who taste them. From this vision comes our system of three pillars: HEMA, AIRE and MANA. Three different ways of connecting with wine and with the valley.

HEMA is the starting point. A space for listening and being present. HEMA wines invite you to slow down, because everything that matters begins with a breath.

AIRE is the moment of opening up. It is about connection. AIRE wines accompany encounters and create bonds.

MANA is the moment of energy. An invitation to feel the vital force that flows through every experience.

Three dimensions. Three ways of feeling the valley.
One philosophy. Slow Living Valley.

The Terroir

The Terroir

The Ovada area is one of Italy's oldest wine-growing regions, a borderland between Piedmont and Liguria where viticulture traces its roots back to Roman times. Here, the landscape is constantly changing: rolling hills, vineyards, woodlands and currents of air rising from the sea coexist in a rare balance that deeply influences the character of the wines.

The valley stretches across different elevations and is defined by a particularly distinctive soil composition. Calcareous marls and the ancient marine rocks of the so-called terre bianche, or "white soils", are considered among the most suitable for viticulture and are part of the geological formation known as the Cremolino Formation. Astian sands, sediments and geological formations reveal the presence of an ancient sea that covered these hills millions of years ago, leaving behind a living material that can still be perceived today in the depth and minerality of the wines.

Climate also plays an essential role in shaping the identity of the valley. Its proximity to Liguria brings the Marin, a sea breeze that cools the vineyards throughout spring and summer, creating significant temperature variations and ideal conditions for slow, balanced ripening. This is a land that does not impose, but gently guides. Our wines are born from this continuous dialogue between earth, air, light and time.

Winemaking

Winemaking

Our approach to winemaking follows Hemanaire's Slow philosophy: respecting the natural rhythm of the grapes and preserving their identity without forcing them. Every stage of the work in the cellar is approached with care and sensitivity, using physical methods that allow us to preserve the wine's aromatic profile while keeping external intervention to a minimum.

During crushing, for example, we use dry ice to cool the grapes and protect the must from oxidation. This allows us to avoid the use of chemicals during the most delicate stages of production, preserving the fruit's freshness, aromatic precision and integrity.

Fermentation also takes place slowly, at low temperatures, allowing the yeasts to work without stress and guiding the wine towards a cleaner, more authentic expression of its terroir. After fermentation, the wine rests in stainless steel tanks, slowly continuing its evolution before ageing in the bottle.

Only our superior wines undergo an additional period of ageing in French oak barrels from the Allier forest before bottling. This approach allows us to intervene as little as possible, preserving personality, balance and consistency with each vintage. Every wine retains the character of the season it comes from: alive, free and deeply connected to the valley.
